Today Uli Frallicciardi (our co-founder) is heading to Rwanda with pro skaters Elijah Moore, Zac Archuleta and pro-bmxer Vic Murphy. They will be in Kigali as part of the festival hosted by Andrew Palau. They will build ramps that will be used in the weekend festival then left behind as the first skatepark in Rwanda.
Rwanda is a bit different than Liberia. First Liberia is in West Africa. Rwanda is East Africa. Both were affected by losing many they loved. In Liberia, it was through civil way. In Rwanda it was genocide. The genocide was one of the worst in history in Rwanda. (Check out our video in our older post.) There is a lot of healing that must take place. Rwanda is blessed in that, unlike Liberia, it's infrastructure still exists....meaning, they still have things like running water and electric. So, although devasted by death of many loved ones and the repercussions of such hateful crimes, this country is bringing to rebuild and heal.
The photo above is human skulls of those killed. I can not even imagine the pain of these events, but I do know that there is forgiveness. Jesus Christ was crucified for the sins of all on a place call Golgotha (with translates to Skull) and in this place God gave us freedom from our sins and the pain of this world so that we might trust in Him! (Luke 23:33-35)
These locals have seen a skateboard as modern TV and internet is much more prevalent. In fact, Uganda (the country just north of Rwanda) boasts the first skatepark in Africa. The church is excited to start this new ministry with the youth and have been emailing us for years to get over there. It is only by favor of the Lord that we are blessed to head over there to help fulfill their vision through this Palau festival.
Please be praying for the team, the festival and those who will attend and hear the gospel. I know the Lord will heal many hearts and bring many closer to Him!
Check out this video of the skaters at Ramp 48 packing up X Games fingerboards for the trip. We thank Mattell for donating these. We also thank Black Box, Etnies and Vans for stocking us up with shoes, boards and safety gear for the new park.
